Well, this is it! We're in the final stretch!!
There is a lot of things going on as we approach the end of the year. Check the right side of our class site for important upcoming dates as well as reading PTA newsletters that are forwarded to you.
Here's a brief overview of what we will be working on as we begin the new semester:
Reading
We will be working on reading skills: categorize and classify, main idea, and drawing conclusions.
We will also be working on suffixes -s, -ed, and -ing as well as vowel pairs ou, ow.
Writing
We are beginning a new genre: Response to Literature
Students will be writing about books! Topics to cover include retelling with appropriate transition words, identifying favorite parts, telling why or why you did not like a story, identifying a lesson to be learned.
It would be helpful to orally discuss these things with your child after reading a story together.
Math
We will begin double digit addition with the intentions to go on to double digit subtraction. Students need previous knowledge of facts to 18 as well as place value. All of these skills can be practiced on the website www.ixl.com. I highly encourage you to use www.reflexmath.com as well to help with fact fluency.
